SHAPEWAYS

Creator & 3D Tools

Overview

I led design of creator and 3D tools for Shapeways’ 3D printing service and platform from 2013-2016. This included file upload and management tools, 3D checking and fixing tools, internal tools, and more.

Process

Rounds of research on customer issues informed months of development and iterations which shipped to beta testing groups initially. These groups provided valuable feedback that drove feature development, iterations, and overall changes to the UX over 12 months.

Outcomes
  • Reduced 'rejected' order rate from 23% to 9%
  • Educated designers on 3D printable design guidelines, leading to increased order conversion rate of 25% to 33%
  • Drove consistency between internal tools, customer experience, and documentation which reduced Customer Service inquiries

SHAPEWAYS

Mobile-friendly Web Platform

Overview

Starting in 2014, Shapeways UX & Tech teams rebuilt the majority of the customer-facing web platform to be mobile-friendly, powered by a responsive grid and component-based frontend system. A simplification of main navigation was a subsequent effort I led in 2016.

INDIEWALLS

Web-based Art Marketplace

Overview

Beginning in 2015, I’ve been designing remotely for the early-stage startup Indiewalls. Their platform connects art buyers with independent artists all over the world. I’ve been responsible for designing web experiences for creators, buyers, and internal tools.

Process

Projects start with a brief outlining business and user problems, user needs and features, other requirements, and supporting data. I then work with the PM to clarify the problem space, define and overall strategy, and then I explore solutions with the team. From there things move to wireframe stage, and finally go through interaction and visual design stages for final handoff to developers.

Healthee - Health & Wellness App Concept

Overview

I designed Healthee in response to a design challenge during an interview process in 2016. I was prompted to pick a concept to teach to other people, presented in a mobile and web application format. The goal was to demonstrate UI design skills, strategic product thinking, and ability to work with ambiguous subject matter.

Process

I started with defining the problem and choosing my strategy for solving the design prompt. I then went into user & market research to understand the space. After that came high-level flows and architecture for the app, followed by wireframes for each layout. Last step was final UI and visual design polish, followed by a click-through prototype for usability testing.
